[ Gr.stilbos glittering.] 1. Bot .: The typical genus of Stilbacei. Receptacle stalked at the base, capitate or clavate at the summit. Various mildew-like fungals, often brightly colored, on decaying wood, herbs, . 2. Entom.: A genus of Chrysididae (q. v.). Stil bum splendidum is more than half an inch long, blue or emerald, often with the abdomen golden red. It occurs in the south of Europe, and in Asia and Africa.
