pl. [ARGONAUT A.] A family of dibranchiate cephalopodous molluscs, the first of the section Octopod a or Octopods. The dorsal arms (of the female) are webbed at the extremity, secreting a symmetrical involuted shell. The mantle is supported in front by a single ridge on the funnel (Woodward). It contains but the single genus Argonaut a (q.v.). 299
