VASARI, GIORGIO

(1511-74), Ital. painter and architect; a pupil of Michelangelo. His paintings brought him some contemporary distinction, but he: is remembered for his book, Vite de’ tetti, 1550. Portuguese navigator. He early lished a reputation as a fearle and followed closely in the footsteps of Prince Henry of Portugal.
