badiaga (badiaga)

[Ru . badyaga, also bodyaga.] A small ( Spongilla ) common in the north of Europe, the powder of which is used in removing the livid marks of bruises. badian, badiane (bā'di-an, -an), n. [F. ba diane, said to be so named from the color of the capsules, L. badius, bay: see bay6.] The fruit of Illi cium anisatum, the Chinese anise-tree. It abounds in a volatile oil which gives it an aromatic flavor and odor. On this account it is much used in China and India as a condiment, and is imported into France for flavor ing. Badian.
