Fraud

(fr awd.) [FromL. fr aus, frau dis, a cheating.] (Law.) All deceitful practices in defrauding or endeavoring to defraud another of his known right. By the laws of all civilized nations, F. invalidates obligations. In order to produce this effect, however, it is nece ary that the misrepresentations, or other dishonest manœuvres of the offending party, shall have induced the other to enter into an agreement or contract, to which he would not, otherwise, have consented.
