Bachelor

(bach'e-lor.) [O.Fr. bachelier, a young man.] An unmarried man.-In the English universities, one who has attained the first or lowest degree in the liberal arts or sciences, or the first degree in the special study he has followed. In the U. States, B. of Arts is a degree commonly conferred on students who have completed the course of study established in the several colleges of this country. [s. 67]
