Barbarian

(bar-bā're-an.) [FromGr. barbaros, savage.] (Hist.) A name given by the ancient Greeks and Romans to people of other countries, or such as were ignorant of their language, manners, and customs. In the modern sense, a savage, uncultivated person. [s. 73]
