(ăn-tin'o-ŭs,) a beautiful Bithynian youth, whom the extravagant love of the Emperor Adrian has immortalized. He was drowned in the Nile, 132 A. D. A city, called Antinoöpolis, was built by the emperor near the spot where he perished, and countle statues were erected to his honor, some of which, of remarkable beauty, still exist. [s. 36]
