Mason, GEORGE

1726-1792. Prominent Va. member of the Federal Convention of 1787. He took an active part in all the debates, and his influence was felt in all the decisions of the convention; yet he was di atisfied with the constitution, and opposed its ratification.-His grandson, JAMES MURRAY, 17981871, was M.C. from Va. 1837-39; U. S. Senator 1847-61; framer of the Fugitive Slave Law, 1850; Confederate commi ioner to England and France, with John Slidell, 1861. They were taken from a British ve el by Capt.
