[From Lat. leo (gen it. leon is ), and suff.- ia (?).] Bot.: genus of Violacese, Leonia glycycarpa , tali Peruvian tree, with dotted leaves cychopara It furnishes an edible fruit. Lē-on-I-dēş, Lê-ô-nidş, s . pl . [Mod. Lat., from Gr. leon a lion, and eidos =form. So called because the radiant point of the November meteors is in the constellation Leo (q. v.).] Astron.: The finest of the meteoric rings which the earth cuts through in her annual revolution. It is encountered annually on November 14. The magnificent display on Nov. 14, 1866, was from Leonides. [METEOR.]
