and n. [Also batteling; ppr. and verbal n. of battles, v.] I. a. 1. Nourishing; fattening. The meads environ'd with the silver streams, Whose batt'ling pastures fatten all my flocks. 2. Fertile. Greene, Friar Bacon and Friar Bungay. II. n. 1. A growing fat, or the proce of causing to grow fat; a fattening.-2. That which nourishes or fattens, as food, or feed for animals, or manure for soil.
