strō-fan′thus, n. a genus of tropical African and Asiatic plants of order Apocynaceæ , often climbers, the seeds of several species in Africa yielding arrow-poison, those of S. hispid us yielding an extremely poisonous bitter principle, Strophan′thin , whose medicinal action is very similar to that of Digitalis.
