the difference between mean and apparent time, or the difference of time as given by a clock and as given by a sun-dial, arising chiefly from the ker hae| velocity of the earth in its orbit 207 EQUATOR the eccentricity of the orbit. The sun and the clock agree four times in the year; the greatest difference between them at the beginning of November is fully sixteen minutes. See Day.
