[From fine, a. (q. v.)] Affecting great nicety or delicacy; over-nice; fastidious; particular; crotchety; foppish. "Be not too finical : but yet be clean, And wear well-fashioned clothes like other men." Dryden: Ovid; Art of Love. Crabb thus discriminates between finical , spruce, and foppish : "These epithets are applied to such as attempt at finery by improper means. The finical is insignificantly fine; the spruce is laboriously and artfully fine; the foppish is fantastically and affectedly fine.
