SIMONE, 1687-1768. Maronite from Mount Lebanon, who came to Rome to study and was sent by the Pope to search for manuscripts in the East. He brought back 150, and was made librarian of the Vatican. He pub. Bibliotheca Oriental is, 4 v., 1719-28. He was aided by his relatives, JOSEPH ALOYSIUS, 1716-1782, and STEPHAN EVODIUS, 17071782, who succeeded him as librarian.
