Abacus

(ab'a-küs.) [Lat., a counting-table.] (Arith.) An ancient instrument used for facilitating numerical calculations. The name may be given with propriety to any machine for reckoning with counters, bends, ., Abbeville, in which one line is made to stand for units, another for tens, and so on.-(Arch.) The upper, or top, moulding of the capital ofa column, (A, A Fig. 2.) so called from its supposed resemblance to a table.
