BLAKELEY

Johnston, a captain in the navy during the war of 1812-15, was in Ireland in Oct. 1781. Two years after, his Mr. John Blakeley, emigrated to the United and settled in Wilmington, North Carolina. 1800 he obtained a midshipman's warrant, and 1813 was made a master commandant, and soon appointed to the command of the Wasp. In ve el he fell in with the British man-of-war in lat. 48"* 36', which he took after a short The Be in deer waa cut to pieces in such a as to render it impo ible to save her; and was accordingly set on fire. After this the put into L' Orient, from which port she sailed 27, and four days afterwards, falling in with sail of merchantmen, under convoy of a ship of line, he succeeded in cutting off one of the ve els. the 1st September, 1814, she fell in with four two on each bow, but at considerable distances each other. The first was the brig-of -war AvoUy struck after a severe action; but Captain could not take po e ion, as another enemy approaching. This ve el, it seems, however, called off to the a istance of the Avon, which now sinking. It was reported that the WoBp sunk by the first broadside; but she was afterwards spoken by a ve el off the Western Isles. this we hear of her no more.
