Joncidres

(zhon-si-Sr'), Victor in de [pseud, of FSlix Ludger Ro ignoll, compr. b. Paris, Apr. 12, 1839; d. there, Oct. 26, 1903. At first student of painting; 1859 began to study mus. with Elwart, and in Lebome’s cla at Cons.; comp, incidental mus. to Hamlet 1863; opera Sardana pale 1867, and second opera 1869 not very succe ful, nor were later works, though Dimitri attracted attention and Chevalier Jean succeeded m Germany; critic for La Liberty after 1871, and contributor to other papers; president of Soc. des compositeurs de musique; also composed Symph. rom antique, suites, vln. concerto, etc.
