[Mod. Latin notorhiz(eœ); Eng. suff. al.] Having the radicle of the embryo lying on the back of the cotyledons; of or belonging to the Notorhizeæ (q. v.). nō-to-rhiz-e-æ, s. pl. [Pref. no to-, and Gr. rhiza = a root.] Bot .: A tribe of Bra icaceae (Cruciferse), having the radicle of the embryo lying on the back of the cotyledons, the cro section appearing thus: O II. It contains five families: Sisymbride, Camel in ide, Lepidide, Isatidæ, and Anchonide. (Lindley.)
