(1752-1817), of Connecticut, divine, poet and teacher, while chaplain in the Continental army composed his poem “‘Columbia.’” From 1795 to 1817 he was president of Yale College and i did much to broaden and advance higher education. His ‘Travels in New England and New York ” are noteworthy.
