(roch'ès-tur.) a city of England, co. Kent, Rock land, on the Medway, 36 m. E.S.E. of London. Pop. 18,144. Rochester, in Minnesota, a town, C. of Olmstead co., about 70 m. S.S.W. of St. Paul. Pop. 3,953.-In New York, a flourishing city, C. of Monroe co., on the Gene see,7 m. from its mouth in Lake Ontario, and 260 N.W. of New York city. Its advantageous location, connecting as it does with the great lakes by the Gene see river, Rock'-oil. with the Erie and Gene see canals, and with the great Rock-rose. railroads of the State, render R. a place of high com-Rock-salt. mercial importance.
