1744-1827. M. P. 1783-1818. His Hist. of Greece, 5 vols., 1784-1818, is scholarly but strongly in the Tory interest. His brother, JOHN FREEMAN, 1748-1830, was Lord Chancellor of Ireland 1802-6, and became Lord Redes dale. Mithra. Subordinate Persian god of light, afterward identified with the sun, and adored as supreme; conceived as offering ever, both in and for each soul, a mystic sacrifice of redemption. His worship, accompanied by terrible rites, spread throughout the Roman empire. and lasted at Rome 68 B.С.-378. Mithradates VI., “THE GREAT," 13663 B.C. King of Pontus from 120 B.C.; most formidable enemy of Rome, which he opposed in 3 wars between 86 and 66 B.C.; defeated by Sulla, Lucullus, and Pompev.
