It crystallises in white silky needles, which melt at 194°, and by reducing agents is converted into benzyl benzoic acid. benzoyl chloride, s. Chemistry: Benzoic chloride, CH.CO.CI. Formed by the action of phosphorus pent a chloride on benzoic acid. It is a colourle liquid with a disagreeable pungent odour; sp. gr. 1106. Its vapour burns with a greenish flame.
