Bracket

An angular shaped piece of iron or steel plate, fitted vertically as a support. Brackets are for instance fitted under hold-beam-stringer plates, they are also employed to connect the ends of angle-iron-beams to frames, and are used in the construction of double-bottoms, etc. See Plates 20. ie & 21.7.
