Anodynes

(an'o-dins.) [Gr. anodynos, free from pain.] (Med.) Medicines which relieve pain and procure sleep, such as the preparations of the poppy. They are divided into three cla es: Paregorics, or such as a uage pain; Soporifics, or such as procure sleep; and Narcotics, or such as ease the patient by stupefying him. [s. 34]
