Otto, pst. b. Sora, Saxony, July 26, 1833; d New York, Jan. 3, 1894. Pupil at Kreuzschule, Dresden, at Leipzig Cons, of Moscheles, Hauptmann, etc., and of Liszt; taught in Leipzig, Dresden, in New Yoflc at Mason and Thomas Cons. 1867-73, in Cincinnati Coll, of Mus. 1873-1893, then again in N. Y.; also condr. May Festivals at Cincinnati; composed cantatas ( Landing of Pilgrim Fathers, etc.), symphonies, concertos, Symphonic fantasia, etc. His son Otto, condr., compr b Dresden, Sept. 14, 1863. Early youth spent in U. S A. where he studied with his father; then in Germany with Kiel, Joachim and Rheinberger. Condr. Heidelberg Lieder kranz, 1888; succe or to Zollner as teacher Cologne Cons, and dir. Mannergesangsvereins 1890; in Leipzig 1892; later settled in Munich.
