AHMADABAD

[s. 26] : The capital of the district of the same name, Bombay, British India. It was formerly one of the most magnificent cities of India, and its superb architectural monuments still testify to the fact. It is an important center of the Parsees. It is a mi ion station of the PCI, established in 1861; with 6 mi ionaries and 30 native workers, men and women, a theological seminary, 2 orphanages, a high school, and 11 common schools. There are 100 members in the church. It is also occupied as a mi ion station by the ME, with 1 mi ionary and his wife and 5 native workers, and by the Christian and Mi ionary Alliance, and the Salvation Army, statistics in regard to which are lacking. 26
