Cratĕrus

, one of Alexander’s generals. He rendered himself conspicuous by his literary fame, as well as by his valour in the field, and wrote the history of Alexander’s life. He was greatly respected and loved by the Maced on i an soldiers, and Alexander always trusted him with unusual confidence. After Alexander’s death he subdued Greece with Anti pater, and pa ed with his colleague into Asia, where he was killed in a battle against Eumenes, B.C. 321. He had received for his share of Alexander’s kingdoms, Greece and Epirus.
