( Agric.) Any strip or border of greensward left round the margin of a ploughed field. Carpholite, ( kar - fo'lit ,) n . [Gr. karphos , a dry stalk, and lithos , stone.] ( Min .) A hydrated silicate of alumina, manganese, and iron, found at Schlackenwald, Bohemia. It occurs in tufts of minute rhombic prisms, of a straw-yellow color; also ma ive, radiated, and earthy.
