(small).* fl. axillary and terminal at the upper part of the slender stems, pendulous, bell-shaped, pa ing from deep blue to white. July, August. l., radical ones tufted, broadly ovate or roundish, slightly cordate, obtusely serrated, on petioles longer than the lam inæ; cauline ones linear-lanceolate, distinctly toothed, se ile. h. 4in. to 6in. Southern Europe. S YN. C. pumila. (B. M. 512.) There is a pale-coloured variety named pallid a, and a pure white variety named alba, both of which, as well as the species, are most desirable for the embellishment of rockeries, or for planting in sandy soil as a front line for a border.
