HOFER

ANDREAS, the Tyrolese patriot, was born in 1767. After the Peace of Luiteville he took a prominent part in organizing the Tyrol militia. In 1809 he led an insurrection against Bavaria, and with Austria’s help liberated nearly all the country. lie was betrayed to the French, and shot in 1810, after being concealed for some time.
