Triticum

(trit'e-küm.) [L., wheat.] (Bot.) A genus of plants, O. Graminaceæ, which includes, among other species -T. vulgare, or Common Wheat; T. repens, the Creeping Couch or Cooch; and T. caninum. T. vulgare is an annual cereal or corn-gra , which under the name of Wheat is well known to every one. Its varieties, though endle , may perhaps be all comprehended under the following heads, of each of which we may have varieties, with more or le hairine on the chaff-scales, .:- T. vulgare muticum(T. hybernum, Linn.), the awnle or Beardle Wheat; T. vulgare barbatum (T. æstivum, Linn.); and T. spelt a, the grains in which are more or le adherent to the chaff-scales.
