GROS, ANTOINE JEAN, BARON

* (1771-1835), a French painter, 6. in Paris, was the son of a miniature painter. He was given an Official position by Bonaparte and became a military painter. In 1824 he was made a baron by Charles X. for his paintings in the Pantheon. His best pictures are: Bonaparte at the Bridge of Arcole; Napoleon visiting the Plague-stricken at Jaffa; The Battle of Hylau; The Meeting of Charles V. and Francis f., and among his cla ic style, Hercules and Diomedes.
