City of China, one of the seaports open to foreign commerce; on the Nim Kiang just above its mouth. The river is divided into two channels by the island of Chung View of Foochoo, from the British Consulate. Chow. Between this island and the n. bank of the river extends the bridge of Ten You sand Ages, resting on 40 piers of hewn granite, believed to have been built in the 11th century. Pop., 1891, ab. 636,000.
