tachymeter (taki meter)

[ An instrument having a level on its telescope, a vertical arc or circle, and stadia wires, is adapted to the rapid location of points in a survey, since it is capable of measur angular ordination and altitude, at the dius vector or distance. The name Tachymeter, or rapid measurer, has been applied for many years, in Europe, to instruments of this description. of azimuth and the Buff and Berger, Hand-Book and III.
