A plot or artifice advanced in opposition to another. counterpoint1t (koun'ter-point), n. [Now corrupted to counter panel, q. v.; ME. counturpynt, coutrepointe, coutepoint (F. courte - pointe ), culcita puncta, a counterpane, lit. a stitched quilt: L. culcitra, ML. culcita (> OF. coutre, cotre, cuilte, > E. quilt, q. v.); puncta, fem. of punctus, pricked, stitched: see point. ] A coverlet; a counterpane.
