[A.S. rode.] (Arch, dc.) A name formerly given to the effigy of Christ on the cro , exhibited in Roman Catholic churches: - otherwise termed the holy rood. (Camb.) The fourth division of an acre, being 40 poles or square yards. [s. 777]
