D.D. (Oxford, 1870), lord bishop of Oxford, Church of England b. in London, Dec. 3, 1820; was educated at Merton College, Oxford, of which he was postmaster; graduated B.A. (second-cla cla ics) 1844, M.A. (Exeter College) 1847; was ordained deacon 1844, priest 1845; fellow of Exeter College, 1844-46; vicar of Tardebigge, Worcesters hire, 1845-55; honorary canon of Worcester Cathedral, 1854; rector of Honiton, 1855-69; prebendary of Exeter, 1858-69; consecrated bishop, 1870. He is chancellor of the Most Noble Order of the Garter; visitor of Cuddesdon, Brad field, and Radley Colleges McKENZIE, Alexander, D.D. (Amherst College, Amherst, Ma ., 1879), Congregationalist; b. at New Bedford, Ma ., Dec. 14, 1830; graduated at Harvard College, Cambridge, Ma ., 1859, and at And over (Ma .) Theological Seminary, 1861; pastor of South Church, A 149 ugusta, Me., 1861-67; since, pastor of First Church, Cambridge, Ma .; since 1886, preacher to Harvard University. In 1882 he was lecturer on theology of the New Testament, in And over Theological Seminary (of which he became trustee in 1876) and in Harvard Divinity School. He has published Hist. First Church, Cambridge, Boston, 1873; Cambridge Sermons, 1883. McKNIGHT, Harvey Washington, D.D. (Mon mouth College, Mon mouth, 111., 1883), Luther an (General Synod); b. at McKnightstown, Adams County, Penn., April 3, 1843; graduated at Pennsylvania College, 1865, and at the Luther an Theological Seminary (both at Gettysburg, Penn.), 1867 became pastor of Zion's Luther an Church, Newville, Perm., 1867; of St. Paul's, Easton, 1872; of the First English, Cincinnati, O., 1880; president of Pennsylvania College, 1884. He was second lieutenant Company B, 138th Regiment Pennsylvania Volunteers, Aug. 16 to Dec. 17, 1862; adjutant 26th Regiment during Lee's invasion of Pennsylvania; captain Company D, 210th Regiment Pennsylvania Volunteers, Sept. 24, 1864, to June 9, 1865. He delivered an addre before the alumni of the Gettysburg Theological Seminary, June, 1878, and an historical addre at the semi-centennial of Pennsylvania College, June, 1882.
