Landscape Gardening

The Romans introduced this art into Britain. Lost under the Saxons, it was probably brought back by the Normans. Through the Middle Ages stiff geometrical designs, without attempt to harmonize the separate features, were maintained. The more graceful modern results in England are due to William Kent, 1684-1748, and Lance lot Brown, 1715-83, of the 18th century. Humphrey Repton, 1752-1818, a umed the title of landscape gardener.
