AMPLITUDE

In Astronomy, denotes the angular distance ofa celestial body, at the time it rises or sets, from tli" east or west points of the horizon. The amplitude of a fixed star remains the same all the year round; chat of ni or moon is constantly changing. At a given latitude,it depends on the declination of the object. Amplitude is sometimes used to denote the horizontal distance to which a projectile is expelled tromagun, or what is more frequently termed the range of the gun. [s. 56]
