Fasts

Days appointed by usage or Ch. authority for partial or total abstinence from food. In O. T. the Day of Atonement was the only enjoined fast. In N. T. fasting is recog. nized, but not enjoined. The R. C. Ch. has many fasts, the Greek many more and much severer.
