[Lat., from Gr. me lant hi on = Nigella sativa. This is not the modern genus.] Bot .: The typical genus of the order Melanthacese (q. v.). It consists of Cape bulbs, with yellow or pinkish flowers. měl-a-nüre, měl-a-nür-ŭs, s.
