(jig.) [From It. giga, a hurdy-gurdy.] (Danc., dc.) A brisk, lively dance or quickstep, somewhat resembling the time and motion of the hornpipe;- it is the favorite dance of the Irish peasantry. Also, a light, quick air in 6-8 time, played to performers in the above dance. [s. 504]
