The term is, however, generally applied to machines which are employed to ascertain the weight of heavy bodies, such as those used for determining the weight of loaded vehicles, machines for weigh. ing cattle, or heavy goods, such as large casks, bales, or the like. Some are constructed on the principle of the lever or steelyard, others on that of a combination of levers, and others on that of the spring balance.
