cleugh, cleuch (kluch)

[Sc., = clough1, q. v.] A cleft or gorge in a hill; a ravine; also, a cliff or the side of a ravine. Since old Buccleuch the name did gain When in the cleuch the buck was ta'en. Scott, L. of L.
