Arminians

(ar-min'e-ans.) [From the founder James Arm in i us, a Protestant divine, B. at Oudewater, Holland, 1560; D. 1617.) (Eccl. Hist.) A sect of Christians which arose in Holland about the beginning of the 17th cent., and separated itself from the Calvinists. Arm in i us taught against Calvin that men are not predestined by the decrees ofGod to happine or perdition in a future state.
