[Named after the Rev. John Banister, who lost his life searching for plants in Virginia.] A genus of plants belonging to the order Malpighia cere, or Malpighiads, and the tribe Banistereæ. The species are evergreen twiners and climbers, with fine leaves and flowers. They were introduced from America.
