Isthmus

(is'müs or ist'müs.) (From Gr. isthmos.] (Geog.) Aneck or narrow strip of land which connects a peninsula to a mainland, as the isthmus of Corinth, Greece; or which unites two continents; as, the isthmus ofSuez, that connects Asia and Africa. [s. 495]
