FERNALD, CHARLES HENRY

Desert, Maine. During the Civil War he served as acting ensign in the navy; from 1871 to 1886 he was profe or of natural history at Maine State College. In the latter year he became profe or of zoology at the Ma achusetts Agricultural College, at the same time serving as entomologist to the State Board of Agriculture. His publications include Tortricidae of North America, 1882: The Brown-Tatl Moth, 1903; and The Genera of the Tortricidae and Their Types, 1908. (1869), American author and playwright; 6. Boston, Ma . He was educated under private tutors and at the Episcopal Academy, Philadelphia. He went to California in 1889, where for four years he was an a istant draftsman in the navy service. In 1893 he became Washington correspondent for the San Francisco Chronicle, and following 1894 traveled extensively in foreign countries, settling in England in 1907.
