in Northern mythology, the palace of immortality, inhabited by the souls of heroes slain in battle. The name is applied figuratively to any edifice which is the final resting-place of many of the heroes or great men of a nation, and specifically to an edifice built by Ludwig I. of Bavaria, near Ratisbon.
